David Lloyd George,Winston Churchill,Charles Booth,Seebohm Rowntree

- David Lloyd George was born on the 17 january 1863 in manchester.The lived with this father William George and his mother Elizabeth Lloyd. His father died 1 year after he was born living them to move to his mothers brothers house in wales.At the age of 28 he became the youngest ever member to participate in the House of commons, a devastating blow hits his career when he lost his seat in the 1900 General election due to the Boer war.
- David Lloyd George believed in bringing the Poor law over to Britain. He decided he to go fouth and change history by "lift the shadow of the workhouse from the homes of the poor" ( A quoation from David Lloyd George). He knew the only way they could do this was by guaranteeing some sort of income to those how were unable or to old work. The old age pensions act was brought together by Lloyd George and an idea from Tom Paine. They would give between 1shilling to 5shilling a week to those over seventy to help them live by providing heat and food. The only way they could pay for the pensions was by raiseing government revenues to 0ver £16 millon a year. The peoples bubget became know in 1909. Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill was born in blenneim palce, woodstock on the 30th of November 1873. His father was Randolph Churchill a Conservative politician and his mother was Jennie Jerome.
Winston Churchill was educated Harrow which led to him going to Royal Military collage at standhurst. Whilest churchill was in the army he wrote military reports and sent them to the Daily Telegraph. He decided to on with his life and quit the army and worked as a correspontent reporting on the war for the morning post.
1900 sore churchill to be elected as an conservative MP for Oldham. in 1904 churchill persuded his party to join him on becoming a Liberal party. Winston Churchill won the north-east elections in1906. he immediately entered as a new member the liberal goverment. Churchill was promoterd when Henry Campbell-banerman became prime minister in 1908 he ask winston he would be the president of the board of trade. The general elections in 1910 he took place in the home secrectary introducing the prison system which is setting up a special after care of those that had served there sentence. The walsh miners strike sore churchill to be using english troops to bring order back to england, he was severely criticized because of this.
1912 was the start of of something new by he set up Royal Air Force (RAF) when he become the first ever lord of the Admiralty there for he took up flying lessons getting full adventage of his brand new technology.
(1840-1916)
Charles booth was born in liverpool on the 30th of March 1840. His father was also called Charles Booth and Emily Fletcher. He was educated atRoyal Institution School At the age of only 22 Charles father sadly past away, his father was know as the head of Lamport & Holt Steamship Company, Charles was left to take over and run the company.
Booth found himself 1860s becoming interested philosophy of Auguste Comte the founder of modern sociology. The learder of first Social Democratic H.H. Hyndman made a claime that only 25% of people living in london lived in poverty this made Charles Booth very angry. Booth packed in his day job working at his company to go on and investigate in the east end as he knew that the stamont must be false. he gathered a team of researchers including his cousin Beatrice Potter. Charles Booths results showed Charles was right and that stamont that H.H Hyndman was incorrect because it was infact that 35% of london lived in poverty not 25% of poeple.
He carried on running his company durning the day but at evenings and weekends he would continue with his research of the rest of london, because he was so consumed with what was happening he made sure that had made at least two visits to every steet in london with his team.
Booth believed that if they didn't take action now that England would become in danger of experiencing a socialist revolution, so him and his team introduced some thing called the old age pension act ,also he gave 10 to 20 shilling to families that had 4 or more people living with them.
Due to what his research had discovered many of them became socialists including Beatrice Potter.
Benjamin Seebohm Rowntree was born in York on 7 July 1871.He was the son of Joseph Rowntree and Emma Seebohm. Benjamin went to school at a Quaker borning school in York before going to owens collage in Mancaster. In 1887 his father handerd Seebonm the director of there successful chocolate factory in York. Him and his father both believed in help the poor and disadvantaged they did this by going to adults schools and going to the home of ome students and helping them with any problem they might have they would do anything to help any one. Two surveys were carried out in 1860 by Joseph Rowntree to do with poverty in Btitan, seebohn was so impressed with his fathers studies he believed it was i good idea to do hi own but in York. In his studies he found that most of the families were either in primary poverty which is a lack of earnings or secondary poverty which is spending money on thing they do not need like alcohol. seebolhn showed that a well paid worker it a happy worker. He wrote a book on how you can over come problems of unemployment, old age and ill health. In 1907 David Lloyd George and seebohn become close friends and one year later they set up the old age pension and the National insurance act. seebohm and his father decided that they should have some changers within there workplace by increasing the wagers of over 4000 workers.
